Health & Public Safety Career Exploration Day - Student Conference
On Friday, April 12, 2019, about 115 health pathway students attended the Health & Public Safety Career Exploration Day. They learned about medical & public safety topics through hands-on and interactive workshops, met and connected with health & first responder pathway students from different schools. Students toured the OR, SIM and Anatomage labs and more!

Men In Nursing – Student Conference
On Friday, November 2, 2018, about 160 health pathway high school students enjoyed a day at the Men In Nursing Student Conference. Students heard from inspirational keynote speaker, Marcus Engel, who shared the importance of providing excellent patient care. Students also participated in breakout sessions where they were taught bystander CPR and trained how to operate an AED. They learned how to create a tourniquet in a disaster preparedness training, and practiced hearing and lung sounds while interacting in the sim lab. In addition, students gained knowledge about how maggots and leeches heal wounds! If that’s not enough, the day also included a health professional industry panel and regional college nursing program booths.

HASPI Educator Conference
Thank you to everyone who attended the HASPI Educator Conference on October 18, 2018. Over 100 educators from the Southern California region attended. Attendees heard from inspiring keynote and endnote speakers; Aaron J. Byzak from Tri-City Medical Center and Joanie and Marla Seacrist from Hawa's Hope. Educators also participated in hands-on HASPI labs, and learned about college programs and internships at local healthcare organizations.
What a great day of HASPI learning and engagement!.

Students learned about careers in healthcare and medical topics through interactive workshops. They also connected with health pathway students from different schools, and learned about college and university career pathway programs around the San Diego and Imperial region.

On Saturday, March 3, 2018 just over 100 health pathway high school students, teachers and SDSU nursing students participated in Nursing Revealed at SDSU. In collaboration with SDSU-California Nursing Student's Association, HASPI hosted the Nursing Revealed event. High school students learned about the application process and requirements for SDSU's school of nursing, heard from a panel of SDSU nursing students and did many hands-on activities!

San Diego HASPI Educator Conference
On Tuesday, October 17, 2017, over 100 educators attended the HASPI Educator Conference. They enjoyed listening to keynote speaker, Stephanie Becerra, Sr. Director at Scripps Center for Learning and Innovation and participated in hands-on HASPI labs such as med bio, med chem, med A&P and more!

In collaboration with SDSU-California Nursing Student's Association, HASPI hosted the Nursing Revealed event. Attendees toured the SDSU campus and Nursing Simulation Lab, participated in interactive breakout sessions and learned about SDSU admissions requirements.

On Friday, April 7, 2017 - 11th and 12th grade students attended the Health & Biotech Career Expo at Grossmont College. This event provided a unique opportunity to learn more about medical and biotechnology topics through interactive workshops, meet and connect with health pathway students from different schools, and connect students to college and university career pathway programs around the San Diego and Imperial region.

On Friday, April 21 Health Pathway Teachers attended this workshop ay Grossmont College to learn how to facilitate regional HASPI conferences, access HASPI resources, share statewide best practices, engage industry, and implement HASPI curriculum.

On March 15, 2017, teachers enjoyed a morning at the San Diego Blood Bank to connect and learn from scientists working in stem cell research and learn more about the San Diego Blood Bank. The day included a collaboration and work time with like-minded subject area groups to develop and/or adapt current health pathway lessons to fit the 5E lesson planning that supports the implementation of NGSS in classrooms. This workshop was specifically for health pathway teachers/sites.

Past Conferences
The 2016 San Diego HASPI Educator Conference celebrated it's 10th anniversary on October 20th! Hosted at Marina Village, the theme: "Infectious Diseases in Public Health" was highlighted by keynote speaker, Dr. Sayone Thihalolipavan, County of San Diego Deputy Public Health Officer. Breakout sessions included: disease transmission simulations, career and internship panels, sex education discussion, simulating an HIV test, World AIDS Day, and more. 2015 Conferences and Workshops

The 5th annual Health & Life Science Collaboration Conference was held in San Diego, CA October 13th, 2015. The conference featured keynote speakers Dr. Peter Salk and Dr. Mark Sawyer, presenting past and current issues of vaccination. Teachers attending received hands-on laboratory experience, and were able to perform our Vaccination & Immunity lab before receiving a complimentary kit to run with their students. The HASPI & HWI Health Pipeline Collaboration Workshops were held in Montebello, CA on October 27th and 28th, 2015 and in Riverside, CA on November 5th, 2015. The workshops were led by Curriculum Coordinators Heather Peterson and Jewyl Clarke, who provided teachers with a chance to explore some of the available labs from HASPI as well as collaboration time with other instructors from various school districts. Attendees also had the opportunity to form industry connections in their region. See the snapshot below for more details.
